I arrived at the C-TV Studios in Staten Island for this month’s filming of the hit Public Access Television Variety Show, Lovin Leyna, where VH-1’s Mob Wives super star Karen Gravano was scheduled to make an appearance.
When I came into the green room, it was live. Make-Artists and hair stylists were scrambling to get Karen ready for the show. At first, I must admit, I was a little nervous on meeting the feisty diva. Anyone who watches Mob Wives could certainly understand why.
Karen doesn’t bite her tongue, and will let you know what’s on her mind at the drop of a dime. I would only hope that this would be a fun filled show, full of great skits and interviews as it always is.
Karen was a sweetheart from the moment we met. Of course, being the center of attention for the show, she handled it with a smooth perfection that would make one think that she had been in front a camera for years. It was almost like talking to an old friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time.
Karen was laid back and very honest with all of her answers. She is also a very intelligent young lady who knows what she wants, and she is using what she has to get it. I was blown away by her humble words and kind attitude. She was very flexible with everything that was happening around her, which made meeting and working with her just that much more enjoyable.
The Lovin Leyna show usually consists of a special guest who is interview by Marialana DiMarzio, the producer and creator of the show. There is usually some other comedic segments that are added in to give the show more a variety show type feel. Sometimes, the special guests who are invited on are offered the opportunity to act out some of skits written for some of those other segments.
I wrote one of the skits for Karen and I to act out, and she owned it! Only having looked over the script for less than five minutes, she came on set and made me proud to have written and acted the skit out with such a talented young lady.
Mob Wives is only the beginning for Karen Gravano. In addition to the hit show, Karen has also written a book called “Mob Daughter”, which is what landed her on the hit tv show in the first place. When I asked her about her book, since I am also an author, a brief smile appears on her face before she says how her book is headed to the New York Times Best Sellers list. Mob Daughter is Karen’s life story, and it’s all about the battles she faced growing up as the daughter to a very famous mobster, Sammy “the Bull” Gravano. It also talks about how she has turned her life around, realizing that she didn’t have to behave in any one particular way just because of her father’s notoriety. From what I hear, the book is a hot item, and I look forward to reading it.
Karen also has a spa opening up, called Luminique Med Spa. Teaming up with Dr. Michael A. Fiorillo, it sounds like a business venture that could be very successful. Before her new found fame and success, Karen was a certified esthetician in Arizona. When we asked if she will be performing any of the spa treatments on customers, she replied, “If my schedules permit, I will.”
Being a fan of Mob Wives, I couldn’t help but to find out if any of the drama on Mob Wives is scripted, and she told me that it wasn’t. So, what you see is what you get. Drita and Karen really cannot stand
