The Bronx, NY – Destination Tomorrow, the Bronx’s leading LGBTQ organization has been awarded $470,000 by the City Council for fiscal year 2019.
This unprecedented funding comes from two new initiatives, The Outer Borough LGBT Consortium, which will allocate 2 million dollars to five community-based organizations to increase coordinated delivery of health and human services for LGBT people and families in the outer boroughs. and the Trans Equity Program which will allocate $1,775,000 to transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) led/focused agencies to support a range of services to help empower TGNC community.
DT-The LGBTQ Center of the Bronx will move into its new home located in the 149th Street HUB area, where it will become a clearing house for members of the LGBTQ community. This new space of 9,000 square feet will operate a drop-in program, a computer lab, while continuing to provide free GED prep, job readiness and social/support groups.
“Destination Tomorrow put a call out to our elected officials and they responded with a resounding show of support and confidence in our ability to continue to mobilize the Bronx LGBTQ community”, said Sean Coleman, Executive Director of Destination Tomorrow. “We’d like to thank Council Members Salamanca, Gibson and Torres for their continued support of Destination Tomorrow and especially Speaker Johnson”.
In addition, we’d like to extend our gratitude to the New York City Congressional Caucus for all of their work bringing light to the needs of the Bronx LGBTQ community. “To our Borough President, Ruben Diaz we thank you for your unwavering support and guidance during this process”, said Coleman
