On the eve of New York City’s iconic Pride March up Fifth Avenue in celebration of the LGBTQ community, revelers will set sail around Manhattan for a life-preserving cruise that educates while it entertains.

The NYC chapter of Impulse, an international organization which promotes healthier lifestyles among same-gender-loving (SGL) men, is operating their second annual SOS (Save Our Sex) waterborne party aboard the Atlantis, on June 23 from 11:30 AM until 3 PM. While plying the rivers around the Big Apple, the group will raise safer-sex awareness with a premiere screening of a new public service announcement (PSA) featuring drag queen Brita Filter, paying homage to the hit TV series Sex And The City, emphasizing condom use and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) education.

Joining Brita aboard the ship are colleague Coco De Ball, DJ Max Damian, performers Ian Greene and DeAngelo Jackson and the Men of Adonis, in the role of sailors. An open bar will be provided by sponsors Kombrewcha and Brockman’s Gin.

Dwight Allen O’Neal, director of events for Impulse NYC, cited the increasingly hostile environment the LGBTQ community faces today, telling GBMNews, “Impulse NYC supports the efforts of highlighting healthier sex awareness, and in the darkness of the discrimination that our transgender family is facing from the military, our entire organization is saddened and wanted to stand up and support our community.”

O’Neal-Badillo, who wrote, produced, and directed the PSA, notes, “with this PRIDE celebration, we have chosen to ‘SAVE OUR SEX’.” Rasheed Gonga, Impulse NYC chapter president, concurred, saying, “Hosting our 2nd Annual Pre-Pride party titled SOS, Impulse NYC is setting sail and making waves.” Impulse will “recruit” attendees into their “Navy” through “advocacy-driven activities” designed to highlight ways to live their best lives in the healthiest way possible.

Impulse has 21 chapters around the globe and is supported by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and its volunteers work to create programs and events aimed at reaching today’s generation of young gay men.

The Atlantis’ “SOS” voyage departs from Pier 81 at West 41 Street and the West Side Highway, but you must RSVP for free tickets. To find out how, visit Impulse NYC’s Instagram page @ImpulseGroupNYC, and get ready for Pride on the high seas!
